Caregivers: Release Your Stress and Let Go of Overwhelm
“How To Discover & Apply Proven Strategies for
YOUR Health and Well-Being”
Family Caregivers:
If you are ready to let go of guilt, stress, and overwhelm — and discover tools and strategies to boost your well-being and health — then join me!
Family Caregivers: You are faced with maintaining your own health while at the same time taking care of your loved ones! It’s a big challenge!
I know. I’ve been a family caregiver for many years — for an aging mother, now 95, and for my husband who is in the later stages of Parkinson’s.
Does this sound familiar?
- You’ve been awakened in the middle of the night when your loved one with Parkinson’s was having violent dreams. With my husband’s violent dreams, he unconsciously grabbed my hair and was pulling it out by the roots. Not a recipe for a good night’s sleep for anyone!
- You are doing your best to take care of mom or dad, and your siblings in another state keep second-guessing you, telling you what you need to do better or different. You feel the stress and guilt mounting until you want to scream, “What do they know? They’re not even here!“
- Finally it got to be too much to take care of your spouse at home. You made the decision that putting him into a convalescent home was going to give the best care, something that you can no longer provide. Now your kids aren’t speaking to you because, “If you really loved dad, you’d take care of him at home and never put him in one of those places.”
- You wake up first thing with a full day planned: Pick up your loved one, take him to his health appointments, then you fall behind because you can’t find your glasses. Then your keys aren’t on the hook. Then you have car trouble. You’re late picking him up, you’re late for the appointments, you haven’t had lunch, and it all just spirals down from there. It’s just not fair!
My name is Betty L. Smith, and I’m a family caregiver. I’ve lived these situations, or something very close. I’ve been on the caregiver path for quite a few years. Over that time, what has come to my rescue time and again have been the lessons I’ve picked up on my lifelong personal growth journey.
We Walk the Same Path
As someone who has been walking the personal growth journey all my life, it’s my commitment to help Family Caregivers with what I’ve learned. Partly it’s a matter of waking up, and then connecting with people on the same path. Sharing what works. Not waiting around for a magic pill.
Because I realize that what I’ve learned over many years — things like feeling my true feelings, learning to be my own authority, and releasing toxic old programming from childhood — all of these are critical pieces, what Family Caregivers need to do to shift towards health and well-being.
“Betty skillfully takes you in to her internal world, drawing you more and more deeply into your own feelings and experience as you continue to read. A rare skill indeed!”
–Judith Sherven PhD, Co-author of Beloved For Who You Really Are, St. Martin’s Press
I want to share with you some of what I’ve learned that has helped me. Heaven knows I’m not perfect. My short term memory comes and goes with my stress levels. And I just ran into the garage door of an alternative practitioner when I took my husband for an appointment.
As a Family Caregiver, you, like me, are facing all kinds of situations like these that will push your buttons big time!
You Can Help Yourself
In the new 6-part teleseminar course that I am starting on Saturday September 25, “The Final Frontier of YOUR Health and Well-Being,” I invite family caregivers to come together to step off the stress-filled treadmill of overwhelm, anger, and guilt.
Give yourself some breathing space over six Saturday mornings. Give yourself some perspective, get a look at the “Big Picture” along with new daily practices that can make a big difference in your life.
You’ll come out with the knowledge that you are not alone – And you will get ideas for taking care of yourself so you don’t break down. Together we’ll help you address your stress issues sooner rather than later, so it doesn’t start to cause health challenges for you, the family caregiver.
“Betty has attempted to do what far too many “scholars” could never accomplish: To take the circumstances of her own life, do her own research from a wide variety of resources to better understand that life from emotional, intellectual and intuitional aspects… and succeed!”
–Rev. Don Chapin, Ph.D.
As a caregiver, you will gain with a community of support, people who “get it,” who know what you are going through, who are walking the same path.
We will share ideas, things that have worked (and what doesn’t work!), stories, community, and useful insights to help you as caregiver take care of your own health and face the challenges of being a family caregiver.
What is the “Final Frontier of Health and Well-Being?”
“I celebrate the courageous pathway Betty Smith paved ahead of me to make my way as a woman easier in this world, a pathway paved ahead of her time and hand to her heart!”
–Sheva Carr, CEO of Fyera!
I often mention the work of Dr. Bruce Lipton, co-author of Spontaneous Evolution, author of The Biology of Belief, and one of the principal contributors to The Living Matrix Movie. Dr. Lipton talks about the placebo effect, or ways that we “self-heal.”
As family caregivers, we are the pioneers in helping both ourselves as well as our loved ones, as together we are exploring this final frontier in health and well-being.
Just like there were stagecoach stops along the Western frontier, there are several “stops” along this new frontier. Here’s some of what we will cover and what you will see shifting in your own life.
Perceptions
Perceptions swallowed when we were children hold the potential to do great harm, especially if we took to heart the messages that created negative internal conversations. “I’m no good, not worthy, stupid…”
- Learn to hear toxic words you say to yourself
- Become mindful to create habits of thought that support you.
- Examine where it came from and how to release what holds you back
Cultural Conditioning
Family, religion, culture, schools all created the “Taboo Code,” the unspoken ways of behaving, that became embedded within us as the default.
- Identify where you stand with the Taboo Code — and what it is
- Learn how to work around the assumptions of what it means to be a “good woman” or “good man.”
- Wake up to specific situations when you are sabotaging yourself as caregiver because of these old patterns.
Game Dynamics
Most of us grew up in a zero-sum world, where if one person wins, the other person loses. We were taught not to lose, not to be losers.
- Gain an understanding of the games that no longer work for you
- Learn how to redefine the rules of the game to work in your favor
- Shift the game dynamics to create healthy win-wins in your caregiving
Life Negating versus Life Affirming Communications
With these toxic perceptions, beliefs, cultural conditioning and games all in place, it’s no wonder that mostly our communications are life-negating.
- Uncover how your low self worth came about — and what the results are
- Integrate proven ways to shift your negative internal talk — now before it’s too late!
- Feel the freedom and joy available with life affirming communications
“…Discover why life-affirming communication, where we feel truly heard, understood, and respected, is critical for our health and happiness.”
–Dr. Dean Shrock
Listening with Love from the Center of Your Own Authority
At the root of life affirming communications is the ability to really listen and hold the space for love. And that also includes learning to feel your real feelings and express the truth of those feelings without judging either yourself or someone else. Releasing judgment may be one of the most challenging tasks of all.
- Discover ways to hold loving space and life affirming conversations with yourself first
- Make the shift to honoring your own inner authority
- Let go of judgments about yourself and your loved ones to open a flow of good feelings
Embed Your New Insights Using Tapping (EFT) – With Guest Presenter Dr. Ben Schwarcz
Rooting your changed understandings into your daily life can be a challenge. One of the tools for helping these lessons stick is using the Emotional Freedom Technique, also called EFT. It’s also called “tapping.” The final class will be a special discussion with an EFT expert, Dr. Ben Schwarcz.
- Address past situations that introduced toxic thoughts into your everyday life
- Learn pioneering techniques for amping up your well-being
- Break new ground to take better care of yourself and your loved one
“In The Power To Change, Betty Smith writes with great feeling and courage about her life-long struggle to speak and live her truth. Please read this book and be inspired to connect authentically with yourself — through love and acceptance.
–Dr. Dean Shrock
