Dr. Milton H. Erickson, 1901-1980, a psychiatrist and hypnotist, was one of the 20th century’s great innovators in psychotherapy. Erickson noted that, “Patients are patients because they are out of rapport with their own unconscious. Patients are people who have had too much programming, so much outside programming that they have lost touch with their inner selves.”
As a lifelong learner and someone on my own inner healing journey, and now as a family caregiver to my husband who has Parkinson’s, I have come to appreciate the importance of what Dr. Erickson pointed out to us in the quote above. I have lived it and experienced it. I have observed the results of this toxic outside programming on my own loved ones and clients, as they struggle with the degenerative diseases of aging.
The self-healing work I have done in dealing with my own past toxic emotions (that grew out of negative cultural conditioning) has helped me get in touch with my inner knowingness, what Dr. Erickson calls our “inner selves.” This has been a gift I’ve been able to share with my clients and loved ones over the years. After my time as a pioneering woman business owner and selling directly to small businesses, I have developed my practice as a Personal Life Coach since 1989.
I am creating a tele-seminar series to share what I have learned from my own experience, research, education, and observation about how our cultural conditioning separates us from our inner selves. In the classes offered by telephone, I will share the steps we can take to connect with our inner selves.
Right now, I am mapping out the content of a free introductory call that will take place in May. The firm date will be coming soon. I will let you know in an email message and also post it on the “Caregiver News” category on my website at www.authorBettyLSmith.com.
The free report at my website (How To Be Your Own Authority) can be downloaded when you sign up in the box at the top of the right column. This workbook will support you in starting your journey. You’ll gain a personal understanding of how cultural conditioning separates you from your inner self and what you can do to reconnect with your inner wisdom.
